Introduction

Congratulations! You are now an Earth Smart Citizen for Zero Waste! We are so glad you decided to take action to improve our environment.

Let’s review all that you have accomplished.
  • Action 1: The importance of resource conservation
You read about how recycling conserves resources and you calculated your waste diversion rate.
  • Action 2: The recycling journey
You read about the journey that recyclables take from your home to becoming new products and surveyed your home for post-consumer products.
  • Action 3: Can I recycle this?
You read about what is and is not recyclable and inspected your recycle bin for contamination.

  • Action 4: What’s in your waste?
You audited your home waste to identify items that can be recycled or composted instead of going to the landfill.
  • Action 5: A plethora of plastic
You read about the problems with plastic and surveyed your home to find ways you can reduce plastics.
  • Action 6: Organic waste, going beyond green
You read about how keeping organics and food waste out of the landfill reduces greenhouse gases and identified ways you can divert your organic waste.
  • Action 7: Organics at home
You started to compost your food and yard waste, helping improve the soil in your home garden.
  • Action 8: Practice the seven R's
You identified the seven Rs to help you go beyond recycling and help your family improve our environment.
  • Action 9: A Zero Waste lifestyle
You dedicated one day a month to be a Zero Waste Day for you and your family.
At the end of each action you responded to questions about your observations and activities.  We have added these responses to those of your neighbors and reported them to your city.  This body of information will help your city to become a zero waste city!  Thank you.

In this final action, you will provide feedback on your experience, share the news and get recognized for what you have accomplished.
